Hello. My name is Nazgal and I welcome you to the ETH Webmaster's Corner. I extend a special welcome to those of you who are international visitors and first-time visitors. I also extend a warm welcome to return visitors. I am so glad all of you found your way to this page. I hope you will stay awhile.
The purpose of this page is to provide answers to some of the questions I receive about the ETH website. Below are the questions I receive most frequently and my answers.
Why did you add a Video Sermon Page?
Last Fall, the Lord inspired me by placing a new burden on my heart. He showed me how web casting our video sermons would benefit people unable to attend church. This was the most challenging idea that He had ever given me. With His help, I designed a section where I can upload and display video recordings of our Sunday services.
For a couple of months, I uploaded videos that were recorded by a wonderful young man in our church. Since his camera could only record one hour of tape, the videos did not include the congregational music that preceded the sermons, and when the services ran long, the recordings sometimes ended before the service was over.
In December of 2007, I received several requests to show the whole service. I began uploading the Sunday services recorded by my husband. He uses his digital camera which has a hard drive capable of capturing each service in its entirety. My husband still records the complete morning and evening services which you may view by clicking HERE. Many viewers have expressed their gratitude in being able to “attend” our services in this manner. Some of the regular viewers are from overseas.
How did you start the ETH website?
The idea began in November of 1999 when Jim Spears was our Pastor. The Lord inspired me to build this website for the East Terrell Hills Church of the Nazarene in San Antonio, Texas where my husband and I have been members since 1985. Initially, the website was used as an outreach to local residents, to people moving into our community, and as a means of communication to members of our congregation.
I realized that creating and maintaining a website would be completely different than anything I had ever done. I had no training for what lay ahead. A church website is not a hobby. A church website is a ministry and a calling. I didn't know how do to it or even where to begin! The Lord gave me the assurance me that by trusting and obeying Him, He would lead and direct me in this monumental endeavor. It was an exciting challenge and I looked forward to it!
First, I spent a lot of time talking to people at church who were more "computer literate" to determine if anyone else felt led to create a website. While most people seemed interested in our church having a website, no one displayed a desire to create and maintain one. After spending several months in prayer and research, I felt the Lord compelling me to give it a try and leave the rest in His hands.
By May of 1999 I was ready.
I started with a basic free page on AOL. A couple of years later, I purchased a domain to create and maintain this website. I still retain ownership it at no cost to the church. I felt led to make the site simple and yet different from other church websites. The Lord guided me in designing a site to display basic information as well as other features as the site expanded. And so, as time passed, since I had no training or assistance, I learned through trial and error. With God's ever-present guidance, this website evolved into its present format.
How do you choose the music?
There is Christian background music throughout this website. The Spirit leads in the selection of music which is chosen from my personal collection based on its appropriateness to the story or section of the site where it will be used. Sometimes I use a contemporary or Southern Gospel song. But, my personal preference is traditional hymns such as those found in our wonderful Nazarene Hymnal.
Why do the stories and poems change so frequently?
Many of you have told me that The Inspiration Corneris your favorite part of the website. You have expressed disappointment that the stories, poems, and videos, most of which are contributed by website visitors, don't stay posted longer. Sometimes, in order to add a new page, I must remove an old one. The exception is when a page seems to be drawing a lot of interest. In which case, I will leave it up indefinitely. My website domain is small and has a limited amount of storage space. This space is used for everything you see on the ETH website which includes graphics, pages, music, inspirational videos, video sermons, etc. To those of you who have emailed stories and poems to me...thank you. Most of the written material on The Inspiration Corner comes from you.
Since you own the ETH website, why don't you use your name?
My name is unimportant. This website is not about me. It’s all about HIM.
Who views the ETH website?
When I started this website I never imagined that so many people would visit it. I am continually surprised and pleased when so many visitors from all over the world drop in. At this writing, the ETH website has been visited by viewers from 37 countries. Many of them return frequently and have become regular visitors to the various sections of the website.
Many visitors from all over our country have found their way to our little church in San Antonio as a result of having visited this website. David Amos and his family found our church a year ago through an internet search for Nazarene churches in San Antonio. David is now our pastor.
Some people would say that visitors find their way to this website by accident. I don't believe that at all. I think HE leads them to this website for a reason. It is part of HIS plan. There is something here that HE wants them to see.
In Conclusion
I want to thank all of you who have taken time away from your busy lives to
visit this website. Without your visits, the website would still be here,
but it would not have grown and flourished like it has. I have been
truly blessed by words of kindness and encouragement from all of you. I have been humbled by your compliments and praise.
The words, "Thank You," just don't seem like enough. You have all touched
my life much more than you realize.
To those of you who visit the ETH website regularly and have
encouraged me to continue with it . . . thank you. Let me assure you that this
website will continue until the Lord tells me otherwise..
This site has only one reason for its very existence . . . to glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s not about who views it or the number of visitor hits. It’s all about the MESSAGE this website is trying to convey.
To all of you who have been kind enough to read this page all the way to the end . . . thank you so very much. I hope you enjoyed your visit with me.
My computer for His glory,
Nazgal
